Serve God's People

Text: Acts 6:1-7

Grecian widows and children were not being properly attended to because of the rapid growth of the church. To correct this issue, the apostles asked the people to select seven men “of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom” (Acts 6:3). They wanted to spend more time in teaching the word of God.

To serve is one of the greatest honors of every Christian. Often this responsibility becomes solely that of the pastor. But every believer should partake in service to God.

Solomon encourages us in Ecclesiastes 9:10:

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good thing therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show to any human being,
let me do it now.
Let me not defer it or neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.
- Henry Drummond

May we find honor and pleasure in serving God and others.

Prayer

Dear God, I am honored to work for you. Help me to do that which you have asked of me. I pray for continued strength and that I will not be weary in serving others. Amen!
