GENESIS 12:1-3
1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Throughout the Old and New Testament there are many references to Abraham's (Abram) belief in what God had told him. Not that he was unshaken by life's many challenges, but his belief in God's promise kept him.
God promised Abram that many nations would come from his descendants. Abram believed God and obediently moved to an unknown land. Although old, Abram left his comfortable life in Ur with only the Lord’s word as a guide. The life changes that he experienced were undoubtedly difficult, but he persevered through the difficult times.—Max Lucado, NKJV Lucado Encouraging Word Bible
God has never made a promise He could not keep. He stands by every 'jot and tittle' of His word: "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled" (Matt. 5:18).
What do you do when God says to move to the unknown? How do you react when God says to believe in the unseen? When we act on what has been promised, then will it be accounted to us. It may take a shift in attitude or even a change in direction. But as Abraham, if you move in obedience he "will bless you" (v. 2).
PRAYER: God, I know what you have promised in your word. Help my unbelief. Strengthen my faith. Bless my life that I may be a blessing. Extend these blessings to my family and loved ones. Grant this I pray. Amen!
