[1Ch 29:10-14 NKJV] 10 Therefore David blessed the LORD before all the assembly; and David said: "Blessed are You, LORD God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever. 11 Yours, O LORD, [is] the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all [that is] in heaven and in earth [is Yours]; Yours [is] the kingdom, O LORD, And You are exalted as head over all. 12 Both riches and honor [come] from You, And You reign over all. In Your hand [is] power and might; In Your hand [it is] to make great And to give strength to all. 13 "Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name. 14 But who [am] I, and who [are] my people, That we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things [come] from You, And of Your own we have given You.
The leaders, captains, and officers gave freely and willingly to the building of the temple. Collectively, they offered "five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron" (1 Chr 29:7), and "precious stones" (1 Chr 29:8).
David was overwhelmed with gratitude after such an outpouring of support.
Now therefore, we thank You and praise Your glorious name. (v13).
But David concluded that all things belonged to God, inferring His sovereignty over all things. It was only right to give back a portion of what God had already given.
"For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours" (v11), said David. This realization prompts a response of praise as David "blessed the Lord before all the assembly" (v10).
God is sovereign over all the world:
-He controls the physical universe: Matthew 5:45; Acts 14:17.
-He controls animals: Psalm 147:9; Matthew 6:26.
-He controls nations: Daniel 2:38-39; 4:17,25; Romans 13:1.
-He controls individuals: Galatians 1:15-16; Luke 1:52; Philippians 4:19; Matthew 10:30.
-He controls the destiny of the wicked: Psalm 11:6.
When you think about it, the idea that God owns everything makes perfect sense. After all, God created us, and the earth that we inhabit.
