Empowered by the Spirit

Text: Judges 6:34-40

Gideon was the fifth judge of Israel and a military strategist. He was chosen by God to deliver His people from the Medianites. But Gideon was very timid and was not sure if he was ready for what God had asked him to do. O my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house (Judges 6:15). But the spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon... (Judges 6:33). God empowered him with boldness and courage. Gideon was able to deliver God's people from the oppression of the Medianites.

We often feel timid and unsure in this life. Even though God may be speaking to us, we do not want to move until He sends us a sign. Gideon found favor when God answered his requests for signs. What happens though when God, in His infinite wisdom, chooses not to show a sign? Unfortunately, many have fallen victim to panic, disobedience, or impatience.

Do not strive in your own strength;

cast yourself at the feet of the Lord Jesus,

and wait upon Him in the sure confidence that He is with you,

and works in you. Strive in prayer;

let faith fill your heart so you will be strong in the Lord,

and in the power of His might.

May we find the boldness to do what God has called us to do.

Prayer

Dear God, empower me by your Spirit to do what you have asked of me to do. I cast myself at your feet and wait upon you. I know you can turn my weakness into strength for your glory. Lead and I will follow. Amen!
