Text: 2 Chronicles 20:14-19
Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea... (2 Chr. 20:2). Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, just had a near death experience. Now the enemies of Judah were invading for battle. He became fearful and declared all of Judah to fast. Art not thou our God (2 Chr. 20:7), asked Jehoshaphat as he talked to God. While all of Judah stood before the Lord (2 Chr. 20:13), the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, the Levite. The battle is not yours, but God's (2 Chr. 20:15). Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD...for the LORD will be with you (2 Chr. 20:17). The next day, Jehoshaphat encouraged the people and appointed singers to praise the Lord. God designed an ambush that would pit the armies against each other to save his people – no life was spared. Judah had won the battle without ever using a weapon or losing a life.
Like Jehoshaphat we must turn to God in time of difficulty. Notice what Jehoshaphat did when he heard the news of the impending invasion:
- He acknowledged that only God could save him.
- He fasted and prayed with the people of Judah.
- He humbled himself though he was king.
- He listened to the prophet Jahaziel and believed.
- He worshiped the Lord, even before Judah had been delivered.
Prayer
Dear God, I acknowledge that you are the only one that can help me. Help me Lord! Give me the strength to endure. I humbly submit to your will. Amen!
