God Will Fight For Us

Text: 2 Chronicles 20:14-19

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea... (2 Chr. 20:2). Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, just had a near death experience. Now the enemies of Judah were invading for battle. He became fearful and declared all of Judah to fast. Art not thou our God (2 Chr. 20:7), asked Jehoshaphat as he talked to God. While all of Judah stood before the Lord (2 Chr. 20:13), the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, the Levite. The battle is not yours, but God's (2 Chr. 20:15). Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD...for the LORD will be with you (2 Chr. 20:17). The next day, Jehoshaphat encouraged the people and appointed singers to praise the Lord. God designed an ambush that would pit the armies against each other to save his people – no life was spared. Judah had won the battle without ever using a weapon or losing a life.

Like Jehoshaphat we must turn to God in time of difficulty. Notice what Jehoshaphat did when he heard the news of the impending invasion:

  1. He acknowledged that only God could save him.
  2. He fasted and prayed with the people of Judah.
  3. He humbled himself though he was king.
  4. He listened to the prophet Jahaziel and believed.
  5. He worshiped the Lord, even before Judah had been delivered.
We sometimes face multitudes in our lives. They can come in different forms and from unexpected places. But if we acknowledge God, fast and pray, humble ourselves, listen, and worship  God will fight for us!

Prayer

Dear God, I acknowledge that you are the only one that can help me. Help me Lord! Give me the strength to endure. I humbly submit to your will. Amen!
